Getting to Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG) from Copacabana

It is easy to get to the Rio de Janeiro International Airport from Copacabana. You can either take a taxi (~R60) or the bus (R8). To take the bus, you can wait for it anywhere along Copacabana Beach. It will say on the bus that it is going to the international airport. There are 2 similar buses, one which goes to the airport and one which goes to Castelo. Be sure to take the bus that says R8.00 and not R5.00.

Buses run daily every 40 minutes until 11pm. The trip takes about one hour and is quiet comfortable. Make sure you don't get off at the domestic airport which is not far from Copacabana.

Just to add that there is very little shopping available at the airport and very little to do there. So spend your money in the city and if you get hungry often, bring your own food. There are 2 little stores that sell snacks and sweets.

For those interested in Havana sandals, the airport sells them at USD34. I’m not sure what is the typical price but in my opinion, USD34 is way to much to pay for a pair of slippers but you decide!
